Downloaded new version of Firefox for windows (31.0), web browsing has slowed to a crawl. Any suggestions? Did not make any changes to settings from 30.0.

Downloaded new version of Firefox for windows (31.0) Web browsing has slowed to a crawl. It is painful, un-usable. Made no changes to settings, add-ons which ran on 30.0. Speed used be very good. Speed of browsing on Chrome still good and unchanged. Any suggestions?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Followed by;

Windows; Tools > Options Linux; Edit > Preferences Mac; application name > Preferences

Then Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

I think that McAfee Site Advisor is causing this problem. When I disable it, Firefox (31) works at its old fast speed.

Test it for a while. Then decide what to do.

I found an add-on that looks to increase the speed of my Firefox. Still testing, but looks good.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.
