When typing into the search box in an incognito window Firefox makes suggestions from previous visits in both standard and incognito mode. Simalarly when in standard mode Firefox makes suggestions some of which are from incognito browsing.

Is this the search bar on the about:newtab or about:home page?

Those pages normally show suggestions and not search terms that you have typed, so make sure that you do not get confused.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

I open an incognito window, press Home, and type in the search box but sites I have visited in the 'normal' window appear. Simarlary it does the same in the 'normal' window, sites visited incognito appear. I am just confused as the incognito window says no history is stored!
