shockwave plugin is set to "Never Activate". All pages with flash still run automatic. I just updated Shockwave to 12.1.7 Before doing this the "Never Activate" worked.

Just to make it a little more confusing, Adobe has two similarly named plugins:

I'm assuming both are set to "Never Activate" because the site wasn't able to detect either of them (see the More System Details link next to your post).

So probably sites are using some other method to play the media. If you right-click it (or Mac equivalent!), do you get a different plugin menu, or the standard Firefox context menu?

You assume "both" are set to "Never Activate". That would work if both were installed. You say to "right click it"??? What is "it" that need to be clicked?

When I go to Tools ->Add-ons ->Plugins Shockwave Director is displayed FWI this is mac OS 10.9.5

Thanks!!!

To play Flash media, you usually need the Shockwave Flash plugin. So if you don't even have it, the media must have some other way of playing...

Sorry about the unclear "it" -- by right-click it I meant the media that is mysteriously playing without Flash. This may reveal a short QuickTime menu, or something else. If you get a long Firefox context menu with a section that has lots of video items, then Firefox may be playing the media using its built-in HTML5 video player.

I uninstalled Adobe Shockwave Director And installed the flash player from your link = Adobe Flash version 17

This solved the problem!

thank you much!
