When right clicking the back button, it no longer brings up a drop down menu of previous pages, just a small square that doesn't do anything. How to fix this?

I updated to 43.0.1 (on Windows 8.1) and now when I right click on the back button, it doesn't bring up the list of previous 10 or so pages. Now it just makes a tiny square appear where I clicked, which doesn't seem to do anything. This is especially annoying when navigating multiple pages of results on a web store, or on web forums with multiple page threads (when I get to the last page, I don't want to click back 5 or 10 or however many times. Everything else seems to be working normally.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
