this problem started a couple of days ago and only relates to my 3 gmail accounts. Yahoo etc work fine. I haven't changed anything at all. Incoming mails are fine and i can access gmail from my tablet and phone and webmail. Error message from all 3 gmail addresses is the same "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.googlemail.com timed out. Try again."

Outgoing server is smtp.googlemail.com and 'm using port 465, SSl/TLS However I haven't changed those. I started Thunderbird without add-ons and the problem is still there.

Try in windows safe mode. This might be firewall related.
