How can I retrieve the history I lost - all of it is gone - when I d/l 46.0 for Mac?

I got a notice popup that 46.0 had downloaded and was ready to install. I quit Firefox and restarted, but it froze for a couple of minutes. I forced quit and restarted. Then all my history was gone. I'm running Mac 10.8.5. I did not make any intentional adjustments to settings - just quit and restarted. Thanks!

There might have been a problem with the places.sqlite database that stores bookmarks and history.

If you use the Time Machine then you can try to restore the places.sqlite file from that backup.
