I recently changed my password for BT Mail and now I am not able to send emails in Thunderbird. I can still send them via BT Mail. What do I now need to do to be able to send emails in Thunderbird?

Thunderbird should try the old password, fail and then ask you for the new one.

If you go to Tools|Options|Security|Passwords→Saved Passwords you can, in current versions of Thunderbird, right-click or double-click the old password and edit it in-situ.

Prior to this, the usual method was to delete the entry in order to force Thunderbird to ask you for a new password.

In addition to Zenos' excellent advice:

If this is only upon sending you will be looking to edit the smtp:// mail account password. Make sure the UserName is full email address (it is usually the full email address) and the password is the one you use to access webmail.
