I support application systems running on MAC using Firefox, specifically Firefox ESR. I always try to keep a compatible version of ESR on all computers in order for the software application to run correctly. Up until recently, i have been running with ESR 38.2. Within the last couple of weeks all of my MAC computers have automatically upgrade to ESR 45.6. Additionally, when I click on 'About Mozilla Firefox to see what version a computer is running on, it automatically takes off and update computer to current version of ESR. Any suggestions how i can stop this. Going to high is adversely affecting my software application

Hi FranWatsonPhx ,

You can use about:support to see what version of Firefox is installed without having to go to About Firefox.

The last release in the Firefox 38 ESR series was 38.8.0esr on April 26th. The next update from that version would have been to 45.2.0esr. The current version is 45.3.0esr; 45.6 would be a distant future release. This page shows the timeline: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organ.../faq/.

Are you saying that your web application or add-on stopped running after Firefox 38? Do you need assistance making it compatible with Firefox 45? In that case, could you provide some more details about it.

As an aside, your Firefox provided this information to the forum:

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0

It's not normal for MacOS X to identify itself as Windows XP, and sites may offer less compatible features given that information. If you indeed posted from a Mac, an extension may be modifying your user agent, or a preference may have an incorrect value. You can check on that using the steps in this article: How to reset the default user agent on Firefox.

Note since you have Mac OSX 10.8 the last Release you can use is Firefox 48.0 or the 45.0 ESR branch. Firefox 49.0 and later (including the Firefox 52.0 ESR in future) will require OSX 10.9 at minimum. See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-osx

Firefox 45 ESR will be supported until 45.8.0esr (which is when Fx 53.0 is released also) unless Mozilla extends support with more updates.
