Thunderbird won't accept changed password for my email server

I changed the password on my email server (xfinity.net), but Thunderbird won't accept the changed password to retrieve my email. I suspect that the reason is that my email is set up to require two-factor identification such that whenever I retrieve my email from a new device, the email service sends me a numeric code to verify that its me that is retrieving my email and not someone who stole my password. How, now can I get Thunderbird and the mail server to play nice with each other?

If your provider facilitates the use of app-specific passwords, then you need to generate one for use with Tbird. If no such facility is available, then there's nothing you can do except turn off 2fa for Tbird to play nice with the server.
