is it possible to kick open a local file(.exe .xsl abc.xlsx etc..) from browser. i have tried to open by passing URl (file:///c:/..) but it download file every time when i try to access. i also tried registry editor to create a URL protocol however it only open .exe file. and i cannot let client to add URL protocol by them self. please let me know how can i solve it. if not possible except just security issue please let me know a proper reason.

You can load a local file into Firefox if it's a type of content that Firefox handles, such as .txt, .html, or .pdf.

Otherwise, Firefox will either want to hand it off to another application or save it.

What do you want Firefox to do with files that it can't read, like Excel files -- open them through a website?
