I have been able to save videos directly using the Firefox download manager by right clicking on the video in the browser tab and clicking "Save Video As"

However, lately, I have gotten the following error message

The download cannot be saved because an unknown error occurred.

Please try again.

I am on the latest version of Firefox 88.0.1 (64-bit) and on Mac OS 11.3.1.

I can use Free Download Manager to save the video but it doesn't work on Firefox.

Please help.

Hi

Can you share a link to the video where this is happening?

This started for me about the same day, 5/21/21. Firefox 88.0.1 was released on May 5, so the update alone didn't cause this. I could provide a link and screenshot to an Instagram video -- not a story -- but it would be a repeat of the above information, except I'm on Windows 10. Saving a video does work with no problem on Brave; however, it's based on the Chromium web browser, and even in private browsing, leaves 39 trackers, according to the free CCleaner, for what that's worth. Firefox private browsing with DuckDuckGo, which is the only search engine I use, leaves only nine trackers. Again, for what that's worth. So saving a video via Brave -> view page source -> video_url does work. I will mention that the save video feature has worked in Firefox in a new tab, but only once or twice. Otherwise, it's the same error message in a new tab: "The download cannot be saved because an unknown error occurred. Please try again."
