GB pound symbol sometimes displays as a J

more options

Hi...

I'm having a problem with Firefox v86.0, although this issue may have been present for several versions and I've only recently noticed it.

The issue is that on some sites, the GB pound symbol which is £ sometimes displays as a J. It's not a major issue, but it's an annoyance. I have restarted FF with addons and custom settings disabled and that fixes things. I then disabled addons in a few batches but the problem persisted which suggests it's a custom setting that is causing the problem.

Can anyone suggest which setting may be responsible for the issue please?

I use FF v89.1.1 on my phone and the issue does not occur on that device, it is only affecting the desktop version. Other browsers display the symbol correctly too.

Thanks for any help.

It sounds like a font problem, but it's odd that it isn't consistent, either always showing or always not showing. I wonder whether in some cases, the site is using an emoji or other unusual way of rendering the character?

Are these the only character rendering flaws you ever see, or could there be more to the pattern?

Do you use uBlock origin or any other extension which has a feature to block web fonts / remote fonts? That can cause issues on sites that don't use standard Unicode characters.
