My WIN7 computer RAM/CPU is being totally overwhelmed by about 5 to 15 times too many process instances that are probably due to Fission (that I have already set Fission autostart to false) and/or a contributing factor may be that there are 3 instances of Firefox showing up in my Default Programs when only 1 instance shows up for everything else.

Hope you can help with this Firefox browser situation because I really would hate to have to rely on an Internet browser provided by the corruptible rich of this country/world.

Please provide some relief as soon as you can.

TIA, Tim

Here you go. see screenshot Set it False, restart the browser and see if it helps. Warning: Changing these advanced settings can sometimes break Firefox or cause strange behavior. You should only do this if you know what you're doing or if you are following trustworthy advice. Just curious, but what are the specs of your computer?

Been there, done that with Fission 2 days ago and then again 1 day ago. No Joy. Can you address the further comment that reads: "contributing factor may be that there are 3 instances of Firefox showing up in my Default Programs when only 1 instance shows up for everything else." ?

What specific details regarding my computer setup do you need to know and can I obtain the info from the Speccy program (same outfit as CCleaner.exe)?

It is quite normal to see more Firefox processes running.

  • process for the main Firefox thread (user interface)
  • one or more content processes
    you see more content processes when Fission is enabled
  • process for the compositor thread
  • process for extensions
  • process for WebRender when this feature is enabled

There are several toolkit.aboutProcesses prefs on the about:config page to show more info. You can find the current multi-process state on the Troubleshooting Information page (about:support).

  • "Help -> Troubleshooting Information"
    "Application Basics":<be>Multiprocess Windows and Fission Windows
    "Remote Processes" (Web Content)

See also the about:memory and about:processes pages for more information about all processes.
