I just updated Friefox on my Android 'phone and all of my bookmarks are gone. How do I recover them?

Hi

I think I know what may have happened. Does the version of Firefox for Android that you have now look very different to the one you had before the update?

Yes. And it's noticeably slower too, evokes a retro dial up experience.

It sounds like you may have updated from version 68 from a few years ago to the currently supported version available from the Google Play store.

Unless you have those bookmarks synced to another copy of Firefox, it will not be possible to recover them.

Well that is very disappointing. Here's the problem, on my real computers I am notified of updates and I can decided when and if I install them. On Android devices, the paradigm seems to be that updates just install, we have no choice in the matter, and if we wake up today and the device we had yesterday is gone along with all of our work well tough rocks, that's just the way it is. So as a result I've been trained in Android space to assume FF was up to date and I had no idea it wasn't until, after more and more sites stopped working, I finally checked and found an update.

Any app that can update and destroy users data without the slightest warning is broken. I hope the developers will take cognizance of that.

Two followup questions:

1. I do not want to synchronize with another copy of Firefox. Is there any other means of backing up bookmarks?

2. Where are the bookmarks in the new version?

Thank you for your feedback.

Aside from syncing them to another copy of Firefox, there is no other way to back up your bookmarks.

In the current version of Firefox for Android, you can find bookmarks under the Bookmarks option in the Firefox for Android menu.
