Can not install Firefox 3.6.4 or 3.6.6 without plugin-container.exe, but you can disable it. Test after disabling and restarting Firefox to see if plugin-container.exe is causing the issue(s). After disabling, if a plugin crashes (Adobe Flash, Silverlight, or Quicktime), the whole browser will crash. Enabled, only the crashing tab will fail.
