I am trying to run java in my Firefox 3.6.13 browser. Java works perfectly in Internet Explorer, but I rather use fire fox.

I have java installed, and it appears in my (about:plugins) page as all enabled. yet when I go to the java website to detect java, I end up watching the swirling bar go on forever and then it reports I have no java installed.

Every page that uses java appears blank, the page loads around the java perfectly, but its just an empty space where anything java is.

I made sure to check the control panel and make sure it is enabled for mozilla family as well as the next gen java is selected. unfortunatley no matter how many times I uninstall java/fire fox, and re install, Java will not work

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."

If not, see this:

I actually tried running safe mode. but I don't see any "fire fox -safemode" file in my mozilla firefox folder. see attached pic

Note: You can also start Firefox in Safe Mode by clicking Start, selecting Run (or use the Start Search box in Windows 7 and Vista) and then entering the following in the text field: firefox -safe-mode

firefox is one word.

The "Search" box isn't going to do you any good, you need the Run box. There isn't a "file" in the Firefox Program Files folder that you can use to launch the Firefox SafeMode. Firefox 4.0 has a fix to get around this problem in Vista and Win7, so you won't have to activate the Run box.

See if this works in Windows 7:

I managed to start in safe mode. java is still not working

You can try Control Panel > Java > General tab > "Network Settings...": "Direct Connection" (enable)

Still no luck. Java is not working after I made the change, even after a restart

unfortunatley I have tried re installing firefox as well as making sure that I have the latest java. Java refuses to work, and the article does not address the fix for my problem.

thanks though.

Why don't you use FF 7.01? I downloaded the 6 update 29 tonight. Just curious, if want to use FF, why not try that? That way, you can just go to tools, addons and it will take you to the plugins and you can check there for updates and if it is updated, both.

All the best...Donna
