Trying to make Bing my default search...clicking on the toolbar top-right corner to show available engines - Bing not there...click on "manage search engines" then "manage search engines" - brings me to a totally useless page with 5 add-ons on it!

Went to "http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Search%20bar#w_while-visiting-a-website" (which you get to by clicking on "additional resources" on the page mentioned above with the 5 add-ons on it) - it tells you how you can add an engine while visiting it - but the Add option does not come up when I am on Bing.com!

the example given is (for youtube)

"To add the site-specific engine, open the search engine list and select Add "YouTube Video Search".

Mycroft is no help either since I don't think I want a plugin but rather to make Bing the default search for everything (I hear it's quite good and want to see it in action!)

Bottom line: FF does not seem to like Bing! I know it's a MS product but...

Firefox doesn't come with a Bing search engine, you need to add it. Search engines install via a "plugin".

This page - http://www.bing.com/ - doesn't offer a search plugin for installation, that's why - http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Search%20bar#w_while-visiting-a-website - doesn't work for installing a search plugin into Firefox.

You again Meister! are you the only one here...?

Thanks - I was in mycroft but didn't think this was what I wanted...so how come someone there can do it? OpenSearch Working Icon Bing en-WW (bing.com) by Sakaekuchi Tsubasa [Review]

I clicked on it and it went right to where it's supposed to go - miracle! If it's so easy, why is it so difficult? I don't even know what did I get - a plugin? it's not showing in the list of plugins!

If you have any access to the powers that be - please pass along the message that Bing is big enough now to be worthy of a spot in the list of supplied engines - certainly much more than some of the nothing little guys that were there originally - I don't even remember their names since I threw them all away! I have seen Bing before and I read recently somewhere that it is now indistinguishable from Google and better in some ways from the user experience point of view, so i want to try it for a while. The results page certainly looks a lot cleaner

I don't understand why Bing "does not offer a search plugin" - isn't it to their advantage to make it easy to use it?

Thanks for all your help - not sure if I should mark this "solved" since it may block you from making any more posts here so I'll keep it open for a bit longer in case you want to give me some more free education...
