I installed Firefox 4 on my laptop(upgraded) and when I needed to instal an extension it says I need Firefox 4 to run and that I'm running Firefox 3.6.10. (I have this already installed on my desktop no problem)

Your user agent string (identifies the version of Firefox) is shown as "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 Firefox/3.6.10 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) FBSMTWB" which indicates that Firefox 3.6.10 is installed.

Try resetting the user agent string:

  1. Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
  2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
  3. In the filter box at the top type general.useragent, this should bring up a small number of preferences
  4. Right-click on each one and choose Reset

It should hopefully then correctly identify the version of Firefox being used.
