pdf's won't load. E.g., click pdf, "new tab" opens, pdf never loads.
Firefox 4.0 Addons: adblock plus, download status bar, download helper, down them all, fire ftp, flagfox, forecastfox for weather, java console, java quick starter, microsoft .net framework assistant 0.0.0, pdf download, show ip, and united states english spellchecker.
Browse or search to a page with links to pdfs. Select one, click, "new tab" opens but pdf doesn't load. Right click pdf, select "save as" and correct save dialog opens allowing pdf to be saved to hard drive.
Have disabled all add ons, restarted firefox, and the problem still occurs. I removed all "download assist" and pdf related add ons and problem still occurs.
Have same problem on my wife's system [same type of laptop, same OS, same memory, same video, firefox 4.0, but doesn't have all the add ons that I have loaded.]
Consistently happens and is really irritating. I access dozens of pdfs per day and having to download first, then read second just doesn't cut it. Suggestions on how to proceed?
Thanks,
Jarret

The version of Adobe Reader you have installed is out of date. Update via http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO
You also appear to have this add-on installed: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pdf-download/ As you can see from the user reviews, it doesn't always work. It might be a good idea to disable it to see if it makes any difference.
In Adobe Reader, go to Edit | Preferences | Internet and make sure Open PDF in browser is checkmarked. See screenshot. I have it disabled which is why you see it unchecked. This causes it to open in Adobe Reader. From there, you can choose "Save a copy" to save it to your local machine which is what I prefer.

disabled _all_ pdf addons [as I noted in my question] -- also removed the pdf add ons -- neither action fixed the problem. I'll give your suggestion a try -- minus the "disable" notion -- already tried.

If it still doesn't work properly, try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your other add-ons is the culprit.
upgraded adobe reader -- still didn't work. nuked & reloaded firefox 4 + all add ins. now seems to work. will have to drive it some more and see what happens.
thanks for the assistance.
