I had to restore my system. I have Firefox and could not find my Firefox home page with all the bookmarks. I went to the help in the site and was able to follow the instructions on how to locate the dwczj840.default file which would bring up my profile. The instructions only advise how to get the profile... what do I do next.

Hello cor-el.. Thank you for your response. This is all very confusing. I originally went to the pages you provided. At least 4 hours of reading, accessing links etc. I did find steps to retrieve the saved files within Firefox by accessing the dwcj840.default file in the Firefox browser but the instructions did not provide instructions for what I needed to do to import. I tried importing from the tool bar and nothing worked. I am not a novice with desktops and internet but this is soooooo frustrating. I love Firefox and never would have imagined the browser would be so much of a problem with bookmarks. Having to search though all this documentation is unreasonable. Unfortunately I put all my eggs in one basket.

Many thanks again for responding. I will take another look and if I can not resolve I'll rebuild back in another browser I am familiar with.

You can try to move the file places.sqlite to another folder to make Firefox restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
If that latest JSON backup isn't working then you may need to restore the bookmarks from one of the older JSON backups.

Thank You so much for the instructions. This is starting to make sense. I was looking to see how I could convert the file to HTML but was not sure that would work even if I had the software. I have to leave now but will get back to this later today so you might not hear back from me until later or morning.

Again, many thanks and have a good day! Barbara

Good Morning cor-el, I hate to have to do this but I can not spend any more time trying to retrieve bookmarks. There are too many "bug" scenarios to search through and I am seeing some of the fixes are still in the process of being completed. I need to leave Firefox for now. I had bookmarks on other sites and had no problem retrieving when I brought my system back up. I will need to rebuild my bookmarks from there.

Bookmarks are a priority for most users. I wish Firefox would have focused more on the bookmark platform rather than all the bells and whistle add on's most users can live without (that is not to say they are not awesome!).

I thank you so much for your time. I appreciate it. Have a great day! Barbara
