If you have enabled the security settings for warning you when sites want to install add-ons (except for the Mozilla addons site), blocking reported attack sites, and blocking web forgeries, you should be reasonably safe. If you install the extension Adblock Plus, it will prevent the nastier sites from being accessed.

Options > Security > check the first 3 check boxes.
