I often get pages on Firefox, or in my e-mail, with strange font characters. an example: LifeLock® I do not see these in Safari. I'm not using a weird font. How can I find out what the problem is??

Make sure that you have selected UTF-8 encoding.

That's what's selected and it hasn't been changed. Sorry but thanks for the try. Anybody else want to go at this one??

Do you have a link to a web page with that problem?

Sometimes it is caused by copying UTF-8 encoded text to a 8 bit Western encoded page and in that case there is nothing to do about it.

You can see this if you select Western ISO-8859-1 on this page:

  • Firefox > Web Developer > Character Encoding
  • View > Character Encoding
