Website address does not display on pop up window

more options

Hi,

I'm running Firefox 19.0.2 on a Win 7 64 bit version PC and have noticed that on popup windows, when the address bar is present, I get the "Go to a Web Site" message on it rather than the address of the website. If I right click on the little world icon on the address bar and choose Customise and then close that window without making any changes, the website address gets populated. Does anyone know how to get the website address to be displayed automatically on the popup? My Win XP Pro PC doesn't have this problem and the popups always display the website address without having to do anything.

Thanks

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Hi Staffy, the URL should display automatically on all operating systems.

Is there a particular site where you notice this problem, or does it happen on all sites?

If you reload the pop-up page (either using right-click > Reload, or Ctrl+r, or the icon at the end of the address bar), does the URL show the second time?

Hi jscher2000. I've noticed the problem on a few sites now so it's probably happening for all.

I'm unable to reload the pages as the reload facility (as detailed by you) is not available. The pages I'm looking at are https (secured) pages so not sure if that prevents a reload? The only way I can get the URL to appear is to do what I previous said but I would prefer it to appear automatically like it does on my XP machine.

hello, please check the following preference: enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named dom.disable_window_open_feature.location. it should be set to true.

Thanks, madperson. I checked the entry and the value is set to true. The address bar is present but it just defaults to "Go to a Web Site" rather than the website's URL.

can you test if you can replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once?

Thanks very much for your help guys! The problem was not present in Safe Mode so I disabled the Extensions and discovered that the "RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin" was the culprit.

My Win XP PC did not exhibit the same problem since the RealPlayer plugin was not compatible and as such was effectively disabled.

Many thanks for your help.

Thank you for reporting that detail. That connection never would have occurred to me!
