I'm using ONLY Defender for AV. I've tried adding exceptions for Thunderbird.exe, and ALL Thunderbird folders on PC. I've tried Tbird safe mode, I've disallowed email checking in Tbird settings, It doesn't appear to be using too much CPU or RAM. Bummer!

Both Dells, Both i7 w/8gb RAM,

Hi there, If this is a new installation, my first guess is that it's just using resources to download your IMAP messages, and index them.

If you don't see anything in the status bar, can you please check if the problem still occurs if you restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled? Go to Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

  • If the problem does not occur, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem.
  • If the problem still occurs, we'll need some more info about your Thunderbird setup.
