When I search using the address field, I'm no longer directed directly to the website I look for, for ex BBC, as I was previously.

Instead the Google web page show up with a list of proposals, and I have to click on the BBC link there to get to the site.

Can you pleas give me the code to insert in the "about:config" keyword.URL

Starting with Firefox 23 the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar that way.

The search engine that is used on the location bar and on the about:home page is the search engine that is selected in the search Bar on the Navigation Toolbar.

You can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page.

That is not a good answer.

Do I have to change to Chrome to keep this function in my browser?

I think you are doing a great mistake if you take away the possibility to search direct in the address field.

You can still search via the location bar. Only the location bar (and the about:home page) now uses the same search engine as selected in the search bar.

Another possibility is to disable keyword search (keyword.enable = false) and use a (one letter) keyword search for searching via the location bar.
You can add a keyword to an installed search engine via Manage Search Engines (click the search engines icon on the search bar) and you can add a keyword to a bookmark in the Bookmarks Manager (Show All Bookmarks).

That will allow to switch easily between search engines when you search via the location bar and there also is no problem with a one word search.

The thing is that previously the search word inserted in the address bar, for example BBC, took me directly to the BBC web site. That is a very useful and nice function that I used every day.

It is not important which search engine is used as long as it take me to the site that I want to go to.

Now it take me to the Google website where I have to click once more for example on the bbc link.

I'm sad to say it but, until you solve this I go for Chrome.

OK

I inserted the new keyword.URL in the profile, and now it function ;)

Thanks for the help ...

But I still think it is an stupid idea to remove this function and force the users to take all this boring actions in order to make the search in the address field function .
