how to migrate local folders from microsoft live mail 2012 to thunderbird

more options

Hi, the question above summarizes my problem. I changed from live mail to Thindebrid, which I like very much on first view. But now aobut the folders....With more than 300 folders locally stored inside livemail I tried to create a new folder inside the default folders in live mail, and then copy the content of the folders, that is mails form the local folder to this one. Then it showde up automatically in Thunderbird (great!) in the Inbox and then I dragged this folder to the local folders inside thunderbird (which takes ages as it is downloading the messages again) And then i deleted the folder in the inbox, both in live mail and thunderbird. Bit this is very painstaking and costs about 15 minuten per folder. So it is possible but I should enter a monastry... Has anyone any idea how to do this is more efficiently...after all, it is a computer...

thanks in advance!

Firstly, some clarification of terms:

Live mail is a provider, not a client like Thunderbird.

Providers allow for IMAP / POP3 access, most folks much like yourself are familiar with IMAP --- Emails and folders are on the remote side (not saved on your HDD/SSD (which is what POP3 does).

As for setting those folders and such up in Tbird:

when setting up live mail or any other provider email to get desired effect familiar to users from foo.mail.com/webmail ( or mail.live.com in case) use IMAP in the setup menu (should be second one when setting and account up initially.)
