I keep getting an error ("Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?") when trying to set up an account in Thunderbird using my Earthlink Mailbox settings. In my Earthlink Mailbox settings, my display name is blank. However, Thunderbird will not allow me to leave that box empty.

Your display name should never be blank. What you put in there is your business However. Most of my account have my name, I put "Your Nightmare" in for the account I use with my kids.

Issues with he inability to verify account settings are almost always issues with anti virus programs. It you have Nortons, I suggest you disable both mail checking and SONAR before you try and configure an account. Other product have other similar issues, although Norton's does appear to be the worst.;
