Why has web page formatting disappeared and all text has piled up against the left page frame?

It is like looking at a plain but contracted text page almost without attributes. There are links but the page is difficult to use. The background picture has disappeared and so has the text Change Background. Existing links do not work. Mozilla pages seem to be working. It might have occured because of a file cleaning operation by CCleaner but it is not sure because there were hours between the occurences. This has happened once before and could not be fixed except by removing the Firefox installation and reinstalling. I have looked through all the possible settings but no luck.

The Basic Page Style was correctly set and I tried to flip the setting on and forth, but no improvement. I reviewed the effect of the firewall program. Unfortunately F-Secure is not listed in the advisory note. Along the general lines I looked up the list of allowed applications in F-Secure but could not find Firefox on the list. I added it and also added the conditions to be applied, no change so far. Anyway, this approach looks promising enough to pursue testing.

If you mark something as solved before it is then others will assume the question is solved, and you might need help with F-Secure. Finding a bad extension you have to try yourself (Problematic extensions can help).

Either way or whatever the cause marking solved on something that is complex should be accompanied by possibly a restatement of the problem, but certainly with what the correct solution actually is, in order to help others with same problem.

The "Link Scanner" component would only apply to AVG Safe search and to another thing that Grisoft also include -- they are unwanted search toolbars and modifications to web searching that slow things down and cause crashes -- without those AVG Free works fine but that has nothing to do with your problem.

When you made the changes to F-Secure you might have to reboot system, I don't really know, but its simple enough to do and might be needed even if not requested. Firefox would certainly have to be restarted, and you would have to have checked the Windows Task Manager "Processes" tab that firefox.exe was not running (rebooting solves that as well).

Here is an article on F-Secure and Firefox, it is marked "may be obsolete":, I dislike the fact that use that marking and usually expect you to still read it and follow the directions, but there could also be something later.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I started with clearing the cache, although it did not became clear how the cache could be cleared for individual sites. That did not prove necessary and now I am back to business as usual. Thank you so much!

This solution was fantastic. I applied it for 1 web site (www.hotmail.com) and it fixed all the other sites too. But not only that it also fixed the problem with initiating my web cam.

THANK YOU
