Trying to update to Thunderbird 68.3.1. After opening and trying to add existing email accounts but the option is not allowed. When I click on File > New > Existing Mail Account nothing shows up. Same with trying to set other options like clicking on Troubleshooting information. Nothing happens. 60.9.1 still works.

Chosen solution

As troubleshooting information is not working, that simple route to your current profile is not available. So;

windows key + R Type %appdata%\Thunderbird\profiles and press enter Windows file manager will open in the normally hidden appdata folder in the sub folder Thunderbird keeps it's profiles in.

You may have more than one profile, so you will have to open them in order if you do and once you locate the profile you want (file dates will be a clue as to what is current) Delete or rename the global-messages-db.sqlite file as discussed in this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/rebuilding-global-database

Make sure Thunderbird is not running while you are tinkering in the profile. That is always bad news.

There are two common issues on update. Which, if any applies to you is not clear.

When Thunderbird loads, does it ask you to create accounts like as if you were a new user?

Does the windows fail to draw anything in the way of folders or mail list, but your contacts are still there.

Hi Matt When starting up the first time after the install Thunderbird 68.3.1 does not ask if I want to create or add accounts. The email accounts I had set up in previous versions show up under Get Messages but no action occurs when I click on one of them and no set up options are available. Old contacts are not available when running 68.3.1. I am installing 68.3.1 in a separate folder from the older version I have working.

If you have any suggestions or questions please let me know....Thanks

Gus

Matt

Thanks for the suggestions and links. In a nut shell I used the troubleshooting tool with ver 60.9.1 deleted profiles that was not being used by ver 60.9.1 and ran the -p command with ver 68.3.1 to create a new profile for that ver to use and imported or copied in contacts and files and reestablished email services.

When I tried to use the profile previously used by ver 60.9.1 with ver 68.3.1 no data was shown.

did you actually delete the global messages file? that is not clear at all.

After starting over and deleting the global message file version in roaming profiles ver 68.3.1 was happy with the profile ver 60.9.1 had been using. Thanks
