Is there a way for me to store received emails on my hard drive and at the same time have them deleted from the server? What do I need to do in terms of adjusting settings or other functions?

I need to free up space on my server as I reach my quota. Yet I want to preserve existing emails, some of which are large, and am guessing there should be a way for me to be able to view them in Thunderbird (both when I am online and offline) while at the same time clear up space on the server.

Thanks.

Or is it that once I delete and empty trash on server the email is automatically gone from Thunderbird?

Emptying trash is definitely a start.

To remove from the server messages that you want to keep, you can drag them to folders that you create under "Local Folders". Or use the context menu, aka right+click, in the message list pane.
