Firefox is bogging down my computer and often crashing. Excessive use of memory. Last reading 168 Mb memory used. Hard drive 33 % loaded.

Plugins have made browser clumsy to use with decreased functionality. You almost get tricked into adding plugins and no way to get out.

For crashes, have you check this article: Firefox crashes | Troubleshooting | Firefox Help.

You can disable unwanted plugins and disable or remove unwanted extensions here:

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Add-ons

For extensions, if there is not a Remove button, then usually you can remove that one using the Windows control panel under Add/Remove Programs.

If some are particularly stubborn, please post back with their names for more specific guidance.

Firefox is a bloated piece of software and unfortunately, each new version seems if anything more bloated than the last. I'm afraid this is just the way it is, even without any addons.

That said, I still greatly prefer it to other browsers.
