Rearranging buttons on my toolbar, I was dragging the New Tab button to a different location, and when I let go of it, it just disappeared. Firefox apparently thinks it's still in the toolbar, because it's not showing up in the available buttons window, either.

I cleared cache, relaunched, rebooted, restored the default toolbar, nothing.

Any ideas?

I tried adding info using the Troubleshooter add-on, but with a character limit of 30,000, it's a little difficult to do that any still be able to describe what the problem is.

Chosen solution

As usual, I manage to find a solution after I ask for help.

I realized I have a New Tab button right there in the tab strip, so I guess I will just get used to using that instead.

The issue with the Troubleshooter remains, though. How does one use it if it exceeds the maximum number of characters for a question?

To which position did you drag the button?

To another toolbar or to a different position on the Tab bar?

Does the button become visible when you open the Customize window?

  • View > Toolbars > Customize
  • if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup

About the only thing not included in my description of the problem was to say I use only one toolbar. Other than that, everything you ask is answered in the original post.

But, that's all rendered moot now. See my solution, above.
