I get a lot of ad pages, my new tab page is weird and a lot of words are highlighted as if they're links, and if I click on them it's another ad page.

I wanted to download an ebook online and it made my entire firefox a mess. I get A LOT of ad pages, on any website I go, there's always words highlighted as if they're links (they are links: to an ad page) and mystartsearch sometimes opens up as my search engine instead of google. I really need help.

hello dariaa, unfortunately this sounds like a problem with adware/malware that is active on your system. please perform all these steps:

  1. reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.
