Since the latest updates I am unable to send email using accounts I've had for 15+ years or so that Thunderbird is my primary email client. The 'Message Security' box tells me my foundational email address mtoddjr@gmail.com as the recipient is 'Not Found'. This is the same for several of my email address I have had for several years that are all used with Thunderbird. There is not a problem receiving email from these addresses. I see there was one solution with Norton, which I have also used for many years. I tried the steps related to disabling the software. This did not help. I was trying to forward an email to the above address. Also tried sending on another computer with the same result. What solutions are available to restore the functionality of Thunderbird? Appreciate any potential solutions. -Mike

Chosen solution

The gmail outgoing smtp.gmail.com should work on either port 465, SSL/TLS, or port 587, STARTTLS. Maybe the security setting for port 587 was wrong.

I found the solution. When everything moved to the new desktop, all the settings came with it. the SMTP setting was set at port 587. That is what did not work. Reverted to 465 and all is good. As a matter of curiosity, need to find out why 587 did not work on this new Dell XPS box but did on the Dell XPS laptop.

Yes, logically it seems that 587 would work. This is a project to investigate 'some day' although, my understanding is 587 is significantly more secure than 465 which may hasten the project.
