USENET posts not being marked as read

more options

I use Thunderbird to access USENET groups.

Normal (desired) action is once you look at a post it changes from a black subject line to light grey to signify its been read. You can use 'mark as unread to revert back if required.

The issue is all post now remain marked as unread after reading ..... is there a setting of hotkey combination I have set in error ?

Additional info .... if I go to a thread and use 'mark as read' then it does turn to light grey.

Additional info - I have experienced the same problem for a few months.

I can offer the additional details:

If I go into a Usenet group with only a small number of new posts, it behaves normally (i.e. read posts change to grey and remain grey, the displayed number of 'Unread' posts decrements correctly).

If there is a larger number of new posts in the group, then posts will turn grey as I click on them (displayed number of Unread posts decrements) but as I move on to the next post, the previous post reverts to black and the displayed number of Unread posts increments by 1.

Alas, I cannot define the boundary between these two conditions (maybe around 40 - 50?).

As Sagan pointed out using "Mark as Read" - either on a single thread or on the whole newsgroup - works correctly.
