Logging on to Mozilla Thunderbird extremely slow on win10

Recently logging on to my email is very frustrating. Message comes up "Thunderbird not responding"

It can take up to 20 minutes to open and read my emails. Can you explain why this has become a problem. My son uses this programme and he is having the same problems trying to open and read his emails. I have just renewed my annual subscription, and I would be grateful if you could help with this problem. Many thanks. Jean.

This is usually a network problem and may change from day to day. Sometimes closing and restarting Thunderbird helps, or shutting PC down and restarting When check mail, Thunderbird does nothing except sit and wait for a response from the mail server.

David. Thank you for your advice. It is slightly better but as you say, it depends on different times of the day etc. My laptop is 8 years old and the battery no longer holds its charge unless I have it plugged in always. However, everything else is not slow to access, only Thunderbird. I need a lot of patience! I will keep trying as I was happy with Thunderbird in the past. Jean.

Thank you for your donation.

Please state your version number and model of laptop. Is it better if you start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
