Chosen solution

you can also check if the download works if you run ie with no addons.

however this would not remove malicious software from your pc - therefore also try to run the security software tyler has recommended (not all at the same time though).

What does the error box say? I tried the same link and the download started just fine. Are you using a download manager? Is your connection or firewall blocking FTP transfers? If you have an earlier version of Firefox - You can update automatically by clicking the HELP menu >> About Firefox

what exactly does the error message say?

more options

this is what it said in the error box:

System.CompenentModel.Win32Exeption: The system cannot find the file specified At System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfostartInfo) At System.Diagnostics.Process.Start() At System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(ProcessStartInfo startInfo) At System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(String filename, String arguments) At MyDownloader.IEPlungin.IEMD.DownloadURL(string url)

more options

the string "MyDownloader.IEPlungin.IEMD.DownloadURL" suggests that your pc is infected with a virus/malware - http://home.mcafee.com/virusinfo/virusprofile.aspx?key=1053990#none

you can try one of the tools mentioned in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Is%20my%20Firefox%20problem%20a%20re... to scan your system and remove malware (in case you're still able to download anything)

will i be able to remove with my norton software?

more options

i don't know - but update & download the latest ani-virus signatures for the norton software & do a full system scan!

more options

Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Download and Run TDSSKiller http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363

Download and Install Microsoft Security Essentials http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials (not an official endorsement, but I personally recommend MSE as an awesome permanent anti-virus)

Double check for all Windows Updates.

do i have to run each one of them?

more options

do a full scan malwarebytes first and see if it comes up with any results (provided, you can even download it - here again try running ie with no addons).

i tried to download the malwarebytes and had the ie with no addons but still the same error box comes up as usual..

more options

i just put the addons on disable and tried to download the firefox again and it has downloaded! thanks soo much for your help
