I've listened to SkyFM for years now and recently Firefox has been breaking up the music as if the connection is intermittent. This doesn't happen with other music channels and it doesn't happen if I use Internet Explorer on the same computer.

The strange thing is, if I simply open the Tools menu and click and open the "add-ons" page while Sky is playing, the breaking up stops. The minute I shut the "add-ons" page the breaking up starts again.

I have uninstalled Firefox and also reset it and still have the problem. I also shut down my security software and no help either. Any ideas?

You can try to toggle the media.directshow.enabled pref on the about:config page to false to disable the built-in HTML5 media player.

You can open the about:config page via the location bar and you can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Sorry, that made no difference in things. All still the same with the breaking up and then stopping when I open "add-ons".

Thanks for the response. I appreciate the help with this.

Does that website use the Adobe Flash Player?

You can check that by right-clicking in the player area.

Sorry. I don't know where the player area is. Can you let me know? Thanks.

OK. I just opened my laptop. I used it the other day because I wanted to check the cable and network here. I worked just fine.

When I opened it today there was a message from Mozilla to install a Firefox update. After installing it I now have the exact same problem with my laptop playing.

Here's another interesting thing. If I have any other browser window open along with SkyFm the music plays just fine with the add-ons page closed. The minute I make Sky FM the only window open, it starts to break up.

Is there a Lego like plugin icon on the left end of location bar that indicates that a plugin is being used on the page?

Yes there is.

It may be related to the Shockwave plug-in. From what I saw in the resources you gave me to check, that particular Plug-in can use a lot of bandwidth. When I disabled it the station wouldn't play, so I activated it.

The station plays and breaks up, but if I drop the page size down to the taskbar at the bottom of my screen it plays just fine. So maybe too much bandwidth? I'm still a bit confused as to why it will play just fine in Explorer though.

Also don't know why my laptop was fine playing things until I installed the latest update.
