Hello There,

since one or two years, firefox had an update to change the search settings. Before this happened, we were used to use the address bar for google-search and use the search bar for individual searches like imdb or in some cases use some keywoards for an individual search via address bar. The 'new' firefox-versions (i suppose it was the update to FF 23 and any following version) instead changes the browser.search.defaultsearchengine every time you change the engine in the search bar. This way, the both bars act quite the same when it comes down to searching. It took some time for the (german) supportpages to update to this new behaviour but now that this happened, there is still no hint how to change this back to old settings, where the search bar is for searching and the address bar only led to a search via google, when it was neccessary. So how can we search with ONE search engine in the adressbar again without having the discomfort of having to choose the engine at the search bar? I couldn't find any helpfull information or plugins and "Intelligent search" and "Keywords" are no option for us.

I would really appreciate any help with this.

Thanks in advance -Subsessor

(I'm sorry for any missspelling, as english isn't my native language.)

In the address bar, type about:preferences#search<enter>

If you miss being able to switch search engines without going crazy with menus, try this out;

Context Search {web link} Expands the context menu's 'Search for' item into a list of installed search engines, allowing you to choose the engine you want to use for each search.

Unfortunately about:preferences#search opens up the about:preferences#general as i dont have any "search" submenu.

Furthermore that plugin isnt the right thing for me either. I just want to type something into the address bar and let it be searched via google all the time, independently wich engine is set at the search bar.
