I have just upgraded Thunderbird today and following the upgrade I cannot read any email. All messages in all folders have a blank email body.

I can see text in messages as they arrive in the taskbar popup and also if I forward a message.

Can anyone help?

Mark

Well, my experience is that Outlook comes with its own set of quirks as well, but I completely get where you're coming from and why you would want to.

I am glad you do. I am sick of hearing people who give nothing suggesting they will do better when they give Microsoft $150 for Outlook. They get all of Outlooks quirks and a Bill.

I personally think is is people who think they are going to get better service if they threaten to go to the competitor that really say that. Just as we regularly get people who battle all the way to the support Forum to demand a phone number where they can talk to a real person about their personal issue. I don't know where they think the mone to pay the salary of that fictitious person comes from. All I am is out of pocket and abused. Perhaps they do not realize that in a commercial competitive sense Thunderbird just is not there at all.

To the original poster, from that image it looks like you use the Thunderbird Conversations add-on. Perhaps if you disabled it Thunderbird would work correctly as That add-on has a problem with the current version. You might find all you need to do is restart Thunderbird so the update can complete.

Looking at the add-on site I see this

      • Version Compatibility ***

Thunderbird 38: please make sure you are running the latest (2.9.1) version of the addon and restart Thunderbird -- Thunderbird will let you upgrade to 38 without updating Conversations, hence giving you a broken setup Thunderbird 31: go to "Versions" at the bottom to install 2.8.X

The repair function hasn't made any difference; interestingly when I hit reply to a blank message I can then see the missing message text embedded in the reply.

It sounds like a display issue. Can you check your font color settings? TOOLS - OPTIONS - COMPOSITION There should be a text color and background color preset. Maybe a default was chosen that isn't compatible with your theme. Try changing them to contrasting colors.

It isn't a font issue as there is not enough space for the text so it certainly isn't invisible.

I think I will install Outlook! It has worked flawlessly until the upgrade.

Have you tried it in safe mode? People have had some luck with the disabling of add-ons and then re-enabling them.

Oh, and as an aside, just double check your anti-virus settings. It's a long-shot, but I have heard that other people have had similar issues (in Outlook as well) that seem to have been caused by their anti-virus acting weird with new updates.

Hmmm.... for the record, it is not 'going to Outlook' that I understood, rather it is the concept of going back to something that worked as opposed to moving forward and struggling with something that doesn't quite seem to. The same goes for people who want to reinstall old versions of TB rather than muddle through glitches of new updates. It can be particularly frustrating for those that are not in any way tech-savvy. So I empathize.

As someone who currently has Outlook and CHOOSES not to use it, I consider any 'threat' of going back to it irrelevant and don't even really register it. If someone wants to deal with MS issues, let them. My goal is not to convert people to Mozilla or TB, simply to help them. (And if conversion was my goal, one visit to the MS forums would do more to convert them than I ever could! :) )

But other than that, your point is well made. While I applaud the people who choose to work through these glitches as opposed to giving up, it would be nice if they remember that contributors - especially the high ones such as yourself and other moderators - help by choice, not necessity. A simple 'thank you' would be nice and would go a long way.

So it was the add-on that was causing the problem. I am not sure how I would have found out about the incompatibility myself so I am very grateful for the assistance.

I choose to use TB as I have to use Outlook at work. For info a MS Office full package licence costs less than £20 on a workplace home usage arrangement.

Thanks to everyone who has offered help and suggestions - very much appreciated.
