My Firefox 43.0.4 will not completely remove cookies. I have my browser set to automatically remove cookies, clear cache, active logins, browsing and download history and form and search history when I close Firefox. Everything is cleared except for the cookies. When I go to CCleaner I am finding that there is anywhere from 20 to 30 cookies still there in Firefox. This did not start happening until Firefox went to 43.0.4. How can I get Firefox to clean the cookies out when I close it like it use to do.

Thanks

What location does CCleaner report for these cookies?

Do you see these cookies in the Firefox Cookie Manager?

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

CCleaner only shows what cookies to be removed and does not show file location. Yes can see cookies in Cookie manager and redid files. Still does the same thing.

What kind of cookies are that?

Note that there are extensions that add special opt-out cookies and such cookies can only be removed by uninstalling or disabling such an extension.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
