computer was slow so "refreshed" as it told me to do. Lost my Spanish (Mexico) dictionary. Tried to add dictionary but though it says it has installed, it hasn't. Am using Firefox 44.0 I went into config etc. and changed the -- forget the name -- into MX instead of US and now all the interface is in Spanish but still no dictionary or spellcheck in Spanish. Have lost my French dictionary too but am in Mexico and need it now. Changed it back to en:US

You can look here for dictionaries:

You can check the extensions folder in the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to find dictionaries that were installed previously.

When you use the Refresh feature in Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data, tabs) is automatically imported. The current profile folder will be moved to an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.

It is possible to recover data from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

You can copy files like these to the current Firefox profile folder to recover specific data.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • SQLite files like cookies.sqlite (cookies) and formhistory.sqlite (saved form data)
  • logins.json and key3.db (decryption key) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
  • cert8.db and possibly cert_override.txt for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • persdict.dat for words you added to the spelling checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for Permissions and Site Preferences
  • sessionstore.js for open tabs and pinned tabs and tab groups

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Well I followed all these links and the best I got was a list of Spanish words.

This is an automated response. How about a response that gives me my dictionary back so I can write in Spanish ad get spellchecked?

Do you have the Spanish dictionary installed and selected?

You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu. At least one dictionary should be installed and have a check mark to indicate that it is selected.

  • Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.

The spelling checker is enabled if [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu has a checkmark.

You can enable or disable spell checking globally:

  • Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"

I have done all of this. I have reinstalled (Spanish Mexico). I've done it twice. but when I right-click languages, only English UK and English Canada (which I use) come up. It invites me to add dictionary, but as I say, have done that twice.

I have restarted my computer, I have tried again to type a message in Gmail in Spanish, and no spellcheck or corrections.

Thank you for trying to help.
