I'm using Firefox 45 in Linux mint. When I click on Preferences (Menu>Preferences) it opens at the General Tab page but won't let me do anything. Whatever I click doesn't respond. I'm unable to select anything in the General tab or open another tab eg Security from the menu. Any ideas? Thanks.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

It turns out the Aeon Clouds theme was causing the problem although I have used this for a number of years and not noticed a problem before. Many thanks for you help.
