When I open a report in Excel format it doesn't open in a new tab and I have to log back in to my system. Worked until a week or two ago. PDF works fine. Help!

I'm operating on Windows 7, Firefox 54 (32-bit). I'm running a report in my cloud based system and opening it in Excel format. The report opens fine but causes a blank Mozilla window and my software I was logged into is no longer there on my tab. I have to log back in every time after running a report in Excel format. When I run and open a report in PDF format, however, it opens it in a new window and I still have my tab with my system that I'm logged into that I can continue working in. This was not a problem until a week or two ago. Can anyone assist?

As a temporary emergency measure, try keeping an extra tab open in your application window (Ctrl+t) and that may enable you to right-click that tab and use "Undo Close Tab" when the problem occurs.

But more to the point, it sounds like the same problem as in these threads:

Those users found disabling Firefox's multiprocess feature to be an effective workaround. I haven't yet seen an explanation for what causes the problem, but Firefox 54 now divides content over several additional processes, so it could be a glitch related to that change.

Could you try that out and see whether it works for you?

Undo Close Tab worked. At least this keeps me from having to log back in again.

Also, a fix for this was included in yesterday's .1 update. It's the "Fix a tab display issue when downloading files" line in the release notes (and associated issue in the bug tracking system): https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/54.0.1/releasenotes/

Not sure how long it will take for all Firefox users to get that fix, it may take several days to roll out.
