[Dell desktop; Win10; Mozilla Firefox; Thunderbird; RCN server; WLMail (which I’ll kill when Tbird is settled)]

I need to make an address book, but my long list of addresses is NOT in an address-book form so I don’t know how to import it to TB. I’ve been keeping the list in an email page on WLMail (which program I’ll delete after I’ve transferred my list of addresses and the entire data to TBird).

So, do I copy this list and paste it on the TB address book? I’m confused and hope someone can help me establish a good address book so I can again, enjoy it! Yes...

...many years ago all the names in the AOL Address Book disappeared, so ever since I never tried to make an address book anymore, I just used to highlight, copy, and paste all the addresses on to TO or BCC each time I sent out the messages.

Many thanks for any ideas.

The Text file:

Try this method.

To import: Tools > Import select: Address Books and click on 'Next' select: Text File and click on 'Next' select the file to import as "Tab Delimited (*.tab. *.txt)"

IF one email address per line and no other information eg: name@someplace.com, un-checked all address fields except 'Primary Email'.

IF you have a first and last name plus one email address per line and no other information eg: Joe Bloggs jblogs@someplace.com, un-checked all address fields except 'First Name', 'Last Name' and 'Primary Email'.

Full list of default fields at the link below, but the above should explain the type of options. click on OK button.

Thank you very much Toad-Hall for your help and for the useful link, but I don't know how exactly to do it:

I can position the names I have listed, in one column (one per line) because they are now many on each line all around, but only email addresses, no names, nicknames. So what or where are the address fields so I can "un-check all except the "Primary Email" and what is Primary Email?

I'm so sorry that I'm not familiar with terminology, etc. The link also indicates to match the order in which the fields are so as to match those of Tbird, etc. Maybe if you could explain it a little more?

Otherwise, would it be possible to do it if I make it a column and paste it into the Address Book? Or this other way: copy/paste into TO/BCC of my messages to be sent out? Would it find its way to fit somewhere in the Address Book?

It seems as though I'll have to repeat my history of keeping it on an email page and just copy/past each time. Unless...do you think there's a light at the end of the tunnel for me?  :-)

How's the system going to know where to find my list among the innumerable pages of my email? Isn't there something for me to do about the list in my older email program? Thanx.

The 'list of email addresses' should be written one per line in a text document saved in an easy to access location like your Desktop.

when you follow my instructions to import the emails, it will ask you what text file to use and you choose the saved text file containing your list.

the 'ImportAddress Book' window will show the Address book fields. If you only have email addresses then the only field you select is the 'Primary Email' and move it to the top to match your list. click on OK

Then the address book will be created. You can view results by clicking on 'Address book' and selecting the imported address book.

You can edit any contact listed by double clicking on contact to open a window for editing. For example you may want to add names etc.

Once this is done, you can make sure your Account Settings > Junk Controls include that address in the whitelisting. Additional info on Junk Controls: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/thunderbird-and-junk-spam-messages

In a Write window you can use the 'Contacts Sidebar' to search any selected address book for names or email addresses.
