I recently re-installed Thunderbird using Gmail and IMAP. Importing files and folders I get several Inbox subfolder I no longer use and want to get rid of. However, I cannot delete them, the reason being that they are no longer present in Gmail.

I tried to "trick" Thunderbird by re-creating the subfolders (under, I thought, the Inbox folder, as the do not show any parent folder), but Thunderbird still complains that they do not exist (rather, the file URL is incorrect). Hence, how do I get rid of these subfolders in Thunderbird?

All help appreciated.

Regards, Erik

That's a curious situation.

Sometimes people ask about pasting folders into Thunderbird's profile, finding that if you add a folder to Thunderbird, and that folder doesn't exist on the IMAP server, the folder is quietly removed, precisely because it doesn't exist on the server. But your setup allows them to persist.

I'd note the offending folders' names, close Thunderbird and go look for them in the profile to remove the corresponding files there.
