I've read the article about extension permissions, but still don't understand how each category might affect me as a user.

The explanations of each type of permission and its effect(s) is excellent, as far as it goes. However, I am a real newbie and those explanations go right over my head. I think there may be more like me who would appreciate more user-oriented explanations and examples of the behaviors we might expect from our machines resulting from the actions of extensions that have been granted the permissions. Sorry for the convoluted nature of the previous sentence.

Are you referring to the explanations as mentioned on the addons.mozilla.org website for an add-on’s permissions, during install of an add-on by the browser, or in the Permission request messages for Firefox extensions support article?

I agree it’s not that easy for everyone to keep up with all that’s technically possible or what a browser does in the first place. However, one of the goals is to inform users in a way they at least understand actions that affect them, and everyone is welcome to help out here, so feel free to contribute in any of these areas if you like. :)
