How do I search archived messages?

Searching frequently brings results from the archives, but when I open an old message it is blank. If I use search to find the date of the message, then go to that archived folder and use QuickSearch, then it opens correctly. But that is painful when searching through multiple messages.

How do I get access to those archived messages from the regular search?

This resolved the issue, and even better, it stayed solved after I archived more messages.
