Hello Mary.
You need to contact the website directly and ask them if this is a desired behavior.
On your end, there are a few ways to disable unwanted sounds, but they all require you to install an extension. You may want to search at addons.mozilla.org.
Can you post a link?
Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs. You need to use all programs because each detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

It is on this link for a crossword puzzle but it is the same music every time for other sites I click on. Would really appreciate any help and I am not computer savvy. http://www.uclick.com/client/mma/fcx/
From my side I can hear an extremely absurdly irritating noise that brakes brains and it comes from the flash object embedded in the page, also known as that big huge ugly board in the center of the page. It has a readily identifiable (if you're looking for it) mute button on it, so you just need to click it.
It's and incredibly annoying sound, and a clear sign of bad web design from the site's side. If I were you, I'd complain to its webmaster. I really hope that's the sound you're hearing, and that you find the little button to mute it. It's on the lower right corner of the flash element.
When loading the page, click in the middle of the "blinking" area, then at the bottom, click on "Options", un-check "Play Music".
On the puzzle page, above the "Clues", click "Options", un-check "Play Music".
Sorry I gave a very bad example as I know that site has music on it and also how to mute . I also heard the horrible music on ABC's news videos. I will try and find another example.
