We run a SAAS. We have developed a new function that allows to create a photograph of an individual from a page in our website using a webcam.

The function consists a webpage showing two subwindows. One showing the feed from the camera and one that will show the snapshot that was taken. The snapshot then can be uploaded to our database

This work without fail in Chrome, but in FF we have not come very far.

First we had to learn that we had to set the media.navigator.enabled value to true before we get anything, but anything is only a green field in the window with the camera feed.

Additionally making the snapshot will lead to FF crashing.

We assume that there are more values than media.navigator.enabled but we have no clue as to which.

Hello,

Have you checked the manufacturer website for updates on it's driver? Also, could you please provide us with brand and model so we can investigate further?

Thank You!

Does it require any interaction from the user to permit the webcam to be used? Maybe Firefox has a built-in safeguard?

I doubt that this has anything to do with the camera driver. This we had the same problem at two places and since today 3 (because we asked a clinet to try things out).

But the dircet answer to your question. Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 Driver version 12.0.1278.0

Incidentally.

Just to make sure I de-installed and re-installed the Logitech software. This has brought me some change. Now the camera feed window is not a green field, but the actual camera feed. And I can actually make and upload the snapshot. But then it is end of story. The next attempt to make a snapshot fails to the sense that the camera feed freezes with the first frame after FF is allowed to share the camera.

In reply to finitarry: upon activating the function a FF message appears. Verbal translation of the message: do you want to share the camera with [URL]. Next step is OK. Now the camera starts and freeze on the first frame.

The driver may have some things to do with the browser.. Please try suggestions posted.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

@feer56

What suggestions?

I wrote that I had de-installed and re-installed my camera software. To me that was a clear indication I had followed the suggestion to check for driver updates. I hope I may assume that Logitech offers their most recent software and driver versions on their website.

And besides. I have this utility DriverWhizz, which keeps me up to date.

@cor-el

Now that was an interesting reply. I deactivated hardware acceleration and after restrating FF I can take and upload snapshot after snapshot.

However. After the first round. The camera feed freezes on the first frame after clicking OK to the 'share the camera' message FF presents we with.

@cor-el

Restarting FF apparently releases the camera.
